Blood Maidens (血式少女, Chishiki Shōjo) are unique individuals who are born within Jail and are primarily young women. As explained in the prologue short stories, they are girls born from women who were pregnant when Jail took over and became Marchens before giving birth. As the anatomy of Marchens is much different than that of humans, the Blood Maidens could be born as regular infants, such as Red Riding Hood, or be born as a toddler or older, such as Rapunzel.
In terms of abilities, the Blood Maidens are the only individuals who are capable of fighting against the Marchens and Nightmares, as they possess exceptional physical prowess and unique abilities.
Blood Youths are a variant of Blood Maiden capable of purging corruption and getting a Maiden out of Blood Skelter.
Characteristics[]
Aside from strength and regeneration beyond an ordinary human's, Blood Maidens have one distinguishing feature. When in contact with Marchen blood, the color of a Blood Maiden's eyes temporarily changes to pink. Enough exposure to blood can send them into Massacre Mode, an enhanced state marked by a change in appearance and demeanor. However, this same blood also builds up Corruption in their body, which negatively impacts their mental health and can even send them into Blood Skelter if improperly managed.
They also tend to have a "blood libido", or a personality quirk.
